The strike of young doctors in all government hospitals in Lahore and across Punjab against the implementation of the Medical Teaching Institute (MTI) Act continued on Saturday.

Patients frustrated as OPDs remain closed for second day

According to Express News, the young doctors and paramedical staff in the outpatient departments (OPDs) of all the hospitals were absent from their duties, leaving patients and their families frustrated.

While the OPDs were closed, medical staff in the emergency, ICT and operation theatres continued to work as per routine.

Nurses Association and Pakistan Paramedical Staff Association (PPSA) are also participating in the young doctors’ protest.

According to the young doctors, their peaceful demonstration against MTI Act was underway for the past month, but the provincial government did not respond following which they had to shut down the OPDs.

Several patients in Punjab had to return home empty-handed even on Friday due to the ongoing protest.

Protesting doctors in Rawalpindi boycotted their duties at the OPDs of the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBH), Holy Family Hospital (HFH) and the District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ).

Doctors end boycott after successful negotiations

The doctors claim that they do not want to add to the pain of the public and stresses through their strike, they only want to ensure that the provincial government must not impose the MIT Act in public hospitals.
