ISLAMABAD:

Young artists here Saturday learnt how Faiz Ahmad Faiz’s poetry can be visualised in art.

Harris Khalique, a well-known poet with a keen understanding of Faiz’s work, conducted the workshop, “Exploring Faiz Through Art”. The workshop facilitated artists and art students to explore Faiz in greater depth so they can participate in “Faiz Art Prize” in a “more meaningful way”, according to Khaas Art Gallery and Nukta Art magazine, the organisers.

The competition is part of Faiz’s centenary celebrations and is being conducted by NuktaArt under the umbrella of the Progressive Writers’ Association. Deadline for submission of artworks (postcards to Faiz) for the competition is July 15.

This project aims to bring the collective expression of about 2,000 artists in an exhibition at a public venue in Karachi. It will provide a visual and creative dimension to the poetry of Faiz.

As artists from both Pakistan and India come together the great poet’s message of peace for the world will be carried forth, according to the organisers.

The funds collected from the sales of the paintings will be used towards rehabilitating a potters’ village in southern Punjab where traditional potters have lost their homes and belongings.
