Foreign Office on Sunday stated that Pakistan was closely monitoring the developments in Libya.

In a statement, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said that as part of the policy to ensure security and safety of its citizens, families of the embassy staff have returned to Pakistan.

He said the embassy has appealed to the Pakistani community in Libya to stay away from conflict areas.

“They have been asked to register themselves with the embassy for further coordination,” he added.

At least 264 people have been killed and over 1,200 wounded in weeks of fighting on the outskirts of Libya’s capital.

Eastern-based strongman Khalifa Haftar launched an offensive on the capital on April 4, as his self-styled Libyan National Army pledged “to purge the west of terrorists and mercenaries”.
