FC gets Rs91m monthly to maintain order: minister

House adopts resolution against Hazar Ganji attack, condemns acts of violence

QUETTA: Minister for Home and Tribal Affairs Mir Ziaullah Langove on Friday informed the Balochistan Assembly that the provincial government was paying Rs91 million monthly to the Frontier Corps (FC) for maintaining law and order in different areas of the province.

“The FC was deployed in the province in 2004 due to the worsening law and order situation,” said the minister during the question hour session, presided over by Deputy Speaker Sardar Babar Khan Musakhel.

“The FC has been deployed in 15 different areas of Balochistan, including Quetta, Ziarat, Mastung, Sibi, Naseerabad, Qilla Abdullah, Kalat, Khuzdar, Awaran, Loralai, Kech, Gwadar, Pishin, Panjgur and Chagai,” said Langove, adding that there were 71 platoons and one wing maintaining law and order.

After Langove wrapped up his speech, the house unanimously adopted a resolution against the tragic incident of the Hazar Ganji vegetable market blast, strongly condemning acts of violence.  Twenty-two innocent people, mostly Hazaras, were martyred and over 48 got injured in the attack. The resolution was moved by member of provincial assembly (MPA) Qadir Nayal.

On the resolution, Balochistan National Party-Mengal (BNP-M) MPA Mir Akhtar Hussain Langove said, “We stand firm against the evil of terrorism and extremism. Terrorist activities in Balochistan are really suspicious.”

He demanded establishing a separate inquiry commission to probe into the incident.

Opposition leader belonging to Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) Nasarullah Zerey said, “Terrorist activities have been taking place in the Pashtun areas of the province.”

He urged the government to take immediate measures to maintain the law order situation in those areas.

The house also offered Fateha for the souls of the persons martyred in the Hazar Ganji vegetable market blast, innocent people in the Ormara attack and the polio worker in Chaman.

Leader of the House and Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan blamed the system for the catastrophe emerged after the heavy rainfall and floods. “Government is committed to bring reforms in every sector,” said the chief minister.

Earlier, MPAs Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind, Sana Baloch, Zeenat Shahvani, Nasarullah Zerey, Mir Zahoor Buledi, Syed Fazal Agha, Bushra Rind, Shakila Naveed Dehwar, Mir Salim Khosa, Haji Nawaz Khan, Malik Naseer Shahvani, Mir Akhtar Hussain Langove and others gave a detailed briefing about the disaster caused by the floods in their respective areas.

The deputy speaker adjourned the session till today (Saturday).
