KARACHI: The Supreme Court rejected on Tuesday pre-arrest bail pleas filed by Zohaib and Waqar, who have been accused of gas theft. The two accused subsequently escaped from the court premises.

A two-member-bench comprising Justice Maqbool Baqar and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah heard the plea at the Supreme Court's Karachi registry.

The prosecutor maintained that the accused were stealing gas through a four-inch pipe for an ice factory.

The case is under trial in the court of an additional session judge.

"How will the gas crisis be overcome if gas is being stolen in the country?" remarked the court.

The high court had also rejected the pre-arrest bail pleas filed by the two accused.
