KARACHI: Listen up, Marvel fans!

Superhero franchise's last offering, Captain Marvel, was halted from release in Pakistan due to various distribution and payment issues. It was expected that the same issue will take a toll on the release of Avengers Endgame.

However, in a recent turn of events, Captain Marvel
has finally been given a green signal to hit screens across the country soon.

Not just Captain Marvel, the comic book's much awaited release, Avengers: Endgame, that also marks the end of Avengers franchise is all set to screen in the local cinemas as well. The set of new releases that will happen locally also includes Disney's third film, Dumbo.

Sources have confirmed to The Express Tribune that all three films will be releasing in Pakistan. The previous, international distribution issues have been resolved and now the films are all slated to release in the country.

However, it is quite likely that Avengers: Endgame might get a delayed release in Pakistan, although the distributors are aiming to release it along with the rest of the territories.

There's also the issue of pending payments on the cinema owners end. An expected week-long delay in Avengers: Endgame's release will be due to an internal issue of non-payment between distributors and exhibitors.

The cinema owners also hinted that the bookings for the much awaited films will be open for audience soon.

However, Shazam will release this weekend across the country.

The back story

Previously, insiders told the publication that the real reason is an outstanding payment that was to be made to Disney’s partners in South Asia.

Prior to this, three major distribution companies, including Everready and Distribution Company, were vying to purchase the rights for Captain Marvel, which happens to be Marvel Studio’s first female-led, full-length feature film. They were reportedly planning to purchase the rights from India but were not given them.

“The delay in the release of Captain Marvel here in Pakistan has nothing to do with the political situation between India and Pakistan,” a senior official of the Distribution company revealed. “The real reason is that a local distribution company is yet to pay the studios for films it had purchased the rights to earlier. This has upset the Indian distributors of Captain Marvel, who first asked for a hefty price in exchange for the film’s right and later, decided not to give them at all.”
