ISLAMABAD:
World earth day will be celebrated this year on March 30.

The main function in this regard will be held at Parliament House parking. The National Assembly speaker will participate in the event along with senate chairman, World Wildlife Fund (WWF) senior director as well as various parliamentarians and senators.

According to details, this day is celebrated in order to address the emerging risks caused by climate change, in which thousands of people living on earth express their love for mother earth by conducting environment friendly activities. In Pakistan, the day will be celebrated by switching off unnecessary lights from 8:30pm to 9:30 pm at all important establishments including airports.


The first ever earth hour was celebrated in Australia in 2007 when the lights were voluntarily switched off on important structures.

The WWF Manager Tasir Ali Mirza said that the purpose of celebrating this day is to create public awareness about environmental change. He added that environmental changes have caused a rise in the global temperature which was affecting the lives of people worldwide.
