ATC summons witnesses in former Liaquatabad Nazim’s murder case

Court records statements of three witnesses which include plaintiff and police officers

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) recorded on Thursday the statements of three witnesses in the case pertaining to the murder of Jamaat-e-Islami's Dr Pervez Mehmood, the former town Nazim of Liaquatabad. The court summoned more witnesses at the next hearing on April 4.

One of the witnesses said that when the police arrested Masood Kala, who is affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement -Pakistan (MQM-P), the witness was summoned to the station as well. To this, the court inquired if the accused was present at the hearing. The witness answered in the affirmative and the police produced the accused before the court.

Police officers informed the court that Masood had confessed that along with his accomplices he opened fire at Dr Mehmood. The accused attacked the deceased on the orders of Karachi organisational committee's in-charge.

He is also involved in the target killing of many people in Nazimabad and Rizvia. Police said that Masood was arrested from North Nazimabad on November 30, 2018. Weapons and explosive material were seized from his possession.

The three witnesses include the plaintiff and police officers. Those who had been declared absconders in the case include Imran Aijaz Niazi, Tahir Qadiyani, Zubair alias Pappa, Abdur Rehman Qureshi, former sector in-charge Faisal, Joint Sector In-charge Rehan, Nayi, Shakeel Mota and Karachi organisational committee in-charge Hammad Siddiqui.

The town Nazim was attacked near KDA Chowrangi in 2012. His friend Khaleequllah was also killed in the attack.
