Accused Manzoor and his accomplices barged into Shamshad’s house and beat her, inflicting severe injuries
KHANPUR:
A woman was allegedly tortured by her husband for filing a divorce petition in a court in Khanpur, Express News reported on Wednesday.
Reportedly, Shamshad Bibi, a resident of Moza Faizabad, had filed a divorce petition in the local court. The woman stated in the petition that she could no longer live with her husband Manzoor Ahmed as differences have developed between them.
In a bid to take revenge from his wife over the move, Manzoor, his accomplices Shahzad, Ejaz and others barged into her house and allegedly tortured her. As a result, she suffered critical injuries.
The culprits tore the victim’s clothes and tried to kidnap her. However, when locals heard the woman’s screams, the suspects fled from the scene. They also threatened to kill Shamshad Bibi if she did not take the divorce petition back.
Meanwhile, the police have registered an FIR against the accused under Section 452 on the complaint of the victim. They said raids were being conducted to nab the suspects.
In a similar incident a few weeks ago, a woman was tortured by her husband and in-laws over a marriage dispute in Faisalabad.
Reportedly, Maimoona Khatoon had married Qasim some ten years back. Two years ago, Qasim had an affair with another woman identified as Aleena. The man tied the knot with her in secret without the consent of his first wife.
After his second marriage, Qasim started misbehaving and beating Maimoona on a regular basis.
When Maimoona learnt of her husband’s second marriage, she protested and informed the elders of the family about the matter. An enraged Qasim, his second wife and in-laws then subjected her to brutal torture.
