Free units: Employees of power companies protest withdrawal

LAHORE: Employees of public-sector power companies on Tuesday protested the withdrawal of free electricity units.

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani had earlier announced the withdrawal of select privileges for employees of public-sector companies.

Employees of WAPDA, PESCO, LESCO, FESCO and HESCO protested in cities across the country.

FESCO employees protested outside the company’s office in Faisalabad and later moved the protest to the press club. The protestors also blocked Canal Road for over an hour.

WAPDA employees also staged a protest in Multan.

The protestors are demanding the restoration of basic facilities, such as free electricity, as promised at the time of their appointments.
