Police say deceased was allegedly involved in raping women

TOBA TEK SINGH: A robber was killed in a shoot-out with police in Gojra tehsil, Express News reported.

An official from Miana Gondal police station said that three armed robbers intercepted a passer-by, identified as Riaz, and snatched cash and valuables from him.

He added that while the accused were fleeing, a police team on routine patrolling, signaled the robbers to stop. Instead of doing so, they opened fire on the officials.

He maintained the police retaliated and an encounter took place. The official mentioned that after a brief exchange of fire, one of the outlaws was killed while his accomplices fled under the cover of firing.

Robber killed, another arrested after shootout

The official pointed out that the deceased robber was identified as Imran, a resident of Bhakhi area.

He disclosed that the dead suspect was an absconder and was wanted by police for several crime cases of a heinous nature.

He revealed that the deceased was also allegedly involved in sexually assaulting women during armed hold-ups.

Meanwhile, the body was shifted to a local hospital for legal formalities. Police have registered a case and have started hunting for other suspects.

Earlier, a robber was killed during an encounter with police in Faisalabad’s Jaranwala area. Reportedly, Muhammad Ashfaq, a resident of Dunya Pur, was travelling in his vehicle when two robbers, on a motorcycle, intercepted him near Balochni police station.

The culprits snatched mobile phones, Rs20,000 in cash and other valuables from him at gunpoint. While the outlaws were carrying out the robbery, people in the area informed the police regarding the incident.

A police team reached the spot and challenged the robbers. The accused opened fire on the police team and tried to escape. During the shootout, one of the suspects was killed while the other was taken into custody.
