KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, presiding over a meeting on Monday on the improvement of University of Karachi (KU), directed the vice chancellor to implement the guidelines of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) so that corruption could be curbed.

The meeting was attended by KU Vice Chancellor Dr Ajmal Khan, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Sajid Jamal Abro, University and Board Secretary Riazuddin Qureshi and other officers.

On a query of the chief minister, Dr Khan said that NAB authorities had given them 49 guiding points to stop corruption and develop transparency. Out of the 49 points, 37 have been implemented and work on the remaining 12 was in progress.

Shah directed Dr Khan to take action against ineligible, inefficient and unwilling officers and teachers, and appoint willing and efficient staff so that the university could flourish.

At present, there are 43,000 students studying at the KU. Shah said that he would support the VC financially and administratively in the process of improving the overall standard of the education in all departments, and administration in the university. The chief minister directed the VC to appoint the chairperson for the Benazir Bhutto Chair which has been vacant since the past one year.
