FIA chief: Tehseen Shah appointed permanent head

Govt announces appointment of acting director general FIA as permanent head.

ISLAMABAD:

The government on Sunday night announced to appoint acting Director General of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Syed Tehseen Anwar Shah as the permanent head of the agency. A formal notification in this regard will be issued by the establishment division today (Monday).

Shah, a grade 21 officer from the Police Service of Pakistan, was working as director-general (crimes) in FIA before taking over the position of acting chief earlier this month. He was given the charge after former director general FIA Malik Muhammad Iqbal was transferred to the National Counter-Terrorism Authority in an apparent move to save Iqbal from the wrath of the Supreme Court as he was indicted for contempt of court for his alleged interference in judicial affairs.

Iqbal had offended the Supreme Court by writing a letter to the interior ministry that caused the transfer
of an officer investigating
the multi-billion-rupee corruption scandal in the National Insurance Company Limited.
