RAHIM YAR KHAN:
Murderers, who gunned two cops during an operation to recover a minor girl in Khanpur tehsil on March 5, are still at large, Express News has reported.
At least two policemen, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Arshad Chatha and Constable Sadiq, were shot dead during an operation to recover five-year-old girl Nusrat Bibi from the custody of her relatives on court orders.
The murderers were identified as the girl’s uncles; Ghulam Mustafa, Abdullah and their accomplices.
However, the police failed to apprehend the culprits despite initiating a crackdown in the area.
Reportedly, a team of Shaidani police station, including Sub-Inspector Muhammad Arshad Chatha, Constables Javed Iqbal, Muhammad Sadiq, Bakht Ali and others, went to Gadpur, a part of Kacha area, to recover Nusrat Bibi.
The police team raided the spot and successfully recovered the girl. However, when the cops were returning on a boat, Nusrat Bibi’s uncles Ghulam Mustafa, Abdullah and their accomplices reached the site and allegedly opened fire on the team.
As a result, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Arshad Chatha and Constable Sadiq suffered multiple bullet injuries and died. After the incident, the suspects escaped.
Zahir Pir Police Station SHO Saifullah Khan Korai told Express News that Nusrat Bibi was living with her uncles after the death of her mother.
He added that the girl’s relatives were adamant to hand her over to her father Nasrullah Jorani. He maintained the victim’s father approached the court to recover the girl from the custody of her relatives.
He said that a heavy contingent of police had sealed the entire area and conducted operation to apprehend the culprits.
