Policeman gunned down in Karachi's Orangi Town
The martyred ASI survived a targeted attack on Banaras Bridge in 2012
KARACHI:
A police official was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Orangi Town on Monday.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Rizwan Iqbal, who was deployed at Iqbal Market Police Station, had stopped at a meat shop in Orangi Town 13 near Subhani Mosque when the gunmen opened fire, killing him on the spot. He was immediately shifted to Qatar Hospital. The killers fled the scene.
The Rangers and law enforcement agencies reached the crime scene after receiving information and collected evidence. They seized two 9mm pistol shells and CCTV camera footage.
According to West SSP Shoukat Ali Khatian, 40-year-old Iqbal, son of Abdul Karim, was going to Orangi Town Police Station for some work when the two armed men intercepted him and opened fire.

He said that the deceased ASI had sustained two bullet wounds, one on the face and the other to the head. He added that they had collected evidence and were tracing the culprits.
SSP Khatian further said that the martyred ASI had survived a targeted attack on Banaras Bridge in 2012 in which a fellow personnel was killed. The ASI was, however, injured.
West DIG Dr Amin Yousufzai also visited the site of the incident. He said that the situation, in this case, was different from the targeted attack in 2012 and added that the reasons behind the murder of police personnel were being investigated.
He said that its possible Iqbal came to see a relative or he had some important work or maybe he was there to collect information on someone or something.
Responding to a question on the increase in target killing incidents, West DIG said that there was always a pattern behind these incidents. He said that the accused involved in attacks on political parties and target killings of party workers are often caught and added that such incidents had been curbed.
He said that the accused involved in the killing of police personnel in Pak Colony had also been caught.
He said that when the police personnel was under attack, the immediate response becomes difficult. He said that the slain ASI couldn't respond to the attack. He said that they would surely catch culprits.
Sindh IG Dr Syed Kaleem Imam demanded immediate report from West SSP on the attack on the police personnel.
