FAISALABAD: Cultivation of sunflower will begin from next month and arrangements have been finalised to supply certified seeds and guide farmers in achieving better production, says a provincial government official.

A spokesperson for the agriculture department said on Saturday that the ideal season to cultivate sunflower in Faisalabad, Jhang, Mianwali, Sargodha, Sahiwal and Okara districts was from July 25 to August 10, while in other districts, the crop could be cultivated from July 1 to August 10. He asked growers to use 2 to 2.5 kilogrammes of seeds per acre for achieving good output. He pointed out that sunflower was in great demand in the market for extracting edible oil and the farming community could fetch good prices for the flower compared to traditional crops.
