KARACHI: The Sindh High Court issued notices to federal government, State Bank of Pakistan, Summit Bank and others over the plea against the fine imposed on sugar mills by State Bank due to the delay in the sugar export process.

A two-member-bench, comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Agha Faisal, heard the case in which the counsels of the petitioners argued that the duration of sugar export has been set by the government for 60 days, according to the export memorandum. Both the sugar mills provided the sugar to the shipping companies for export on time. Bandhi Sugar mill exported 780 tonnes of sugar and Sakrand Sugar mill exported 260 tonnes. State Bank imposed the fine despite the shipping process having completed on time. The decision to impose the fine should be annulled.
