KARACHI: A local court granted on Saturday a two-day transit remand to the accused in Irshad Ranjhani murder case and directed the police to present them before the administrative judge of anti-terrorism courts (ATC).

The investigation officer submitted before the Judicial Magistrate Malir-II that the interrogation of the accused, Raheem Shah and Inspector Riaz Amir, had been completed and further physical remand was not needed. He requested the court to send them to jail on judicial remand.

However, the government lawyer informed the judge that there was another case registered under the Anti-Terrorism Act against the accused. He, therefore sought the court's permission to arrest both the accused under this case and to present them before the administrative judge of the ATCs.

After hearing the arguments fromthe  investigation officer and the government's lawyer, the court accepted the request for two-day transit remand while rejecting the plea of the investigation officer to send the accused to jail on judicial remand.

Bail plea accepted

Another local court accepted the pre-arrest bail plea of FixIt founder and MNA, Alamgir Khan, in the case of allegedly throwing sewage in front of Chief Minister's House.

Alamgir's counsel argued that case had been filed under a bailable section therefore pre-arrest bail plea should be accepted. Court inquired that bailable section doesn't mean that the prosecution would not be given the chance of investigation. Where is the investigation officer? The court staff told that he had been called twice but he didn't come. The court issued a show cause notice to the investigation officer and summoned him with the police file on February 18. The court, however, accepted Alamgir's pre-arrest bail and ordered him to submit a surety of Rs20,000.
