LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) provincial lawmaker Uzma Zahid Bukhari has demanded an inquiry into the hiring of a retired army officer as higher education secretary despite his alleged involvement in the Nandipur power project corruption scandal.

Bukhari made this demand on Saturday through an adjournment motion submitted to the Punjab Assembly secretariat. She said it is astonishing that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government had removed Captain (retd) Mehmood from his post but the present government has appointed him as secretary for higher education.

She said the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is investigating the scandal and its spokesperson has confirmed that an inquiry is being conducted against Mehmood.

“He is one of the accused in Rs80 billion scandal. The appointment of Captain (retd) Mehmood has raised several questions and there is a need to conduct a fair inquiry into the matter,” she said.
