Sindh CM writes to PM over gas crisis

Murads says as per Article 158 the gas being produced excessively should be given to Sindh on priority basis

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan expressing serious concerns over extended load-shedding and crisis of gas in the province.

The chief minister has highlighted that Sindh is the country’s largest gas producer but is still facing a crisis situation.

According to the Sindh CM’s spokesperson due to scarcity of gas in Sindh not only domestic but trade customers are also facing difficulties. He said due to this economy, industries and houses in the province are facing a tough time.  The spokesperson further added the ban of gas on Sindh is violation of Article 158 of the Constitution.

CM Shah has further said the production of gas is between 2,700-3,000 MMCFD and in comparison to this Sui Southern Gas is providing less than 1,200 MMCFD gas to Sindh. He said as per Article 158 the gas being produced excessively should be given to Sindh on priority basis.

Drawing the premier’s attention to this issue, Shah has said he will issue directives to concerned departments for evaluating the issue and ensure the province receives the gas it needs as per the Constitution.
