QUETTA: A protest demonstration was staged by the residents of Pasni on Tuesday alleging that the government had declared 36,258 acres of their land as its own property.

Protesters took out a rally from Jadi Hotel to Pasni Press Club chanting slogans against the provincial government.

Addressing the protesters, the tribal elders alleged that the provincial government had taken the farming land from the poor and declared 36,258 acres as government property.

“Without any notice the government has deprived us of our land. We have decided to approach the courts against the injustice,” said the protesters.

Participants of the rally threatened to take to Quetta if their demands were not met.

Social worker Rashid Yad said that on the one hand the government had given free hand to the drug and land mafia and on the other it was grabbing the land of poor peasants.

They stressed that they would not give up their ancestral land.

“The provincial government has forced us to take to the streets but we will not give up.”

The protesters urged the Balochistan chief minister to take immediate notice against the illegal possession of land.
