QUETTA: As soon as light-to-moderate snow started falling along with rain on Tuesday, the people of Quetta headed towards hotels and restaurants to enjoy the weather.
Not only did the business of hotels and restaurants see a boost, people also thronged dry fruit shops, purchasing a week’s stock in a day.
While most enjoyed munching on dry fruit in the cold, others found pleasure in consuming pakoras and samosas.
Tourism spots like Hanna Lake and Hanna Orak remained the centre of attraction as a large number of people were seen enjoying the scenic views.
Several areas receive rain, snowfall
On the other hand, huge rush was witnessed at markets on Prince Road, Jinnah Road, Samangli Road, Toghi Road and in other areas where people enjoyed fried fish and other delicious food.
According to the citizens, they were enjoying the utmost the "pleasant" weather.
However, taking advantage of the situation, the shopkeepers increased the prices of their items. Chicken Sajji was sold for Rs550 to Rs600, while mutton Sajji was sold for Rs1,100. Even pakoras and other similar items were sold at higher rates.
Not only Quetta, but Gwadar, Jewani, Turbat, Pishin and other parts of Balochistan also witnessed snowfall.
According to the Meteorological Office, Quetta received 14mm rain with snow showers.
Parts of Balochistan receive winter’s first rain, snow
The temperature plunged below minus Celsius, while there was no gas at all in major areas of Quetta. Several people were seen carrying gas cylinders to keep their homes warm.
Sewage water accumulated on the roads increased public woes.
Despite Balochistan chief minister’s directives, the Metropolitan Cooperation failed in keeping the city neat and clean during rains.
