Several areas receive rain, snowfall

Quetta receives 8mm of rain, more expected today

QUETTA: Many cities of Balochistan, including the provincial capital, received heavy rain, hailstorm and snowfall on Sunday. The change in climate resulted in a further decrease in temperature.

This was the second time after January 11 that vast areas of the province received rain.

Rain in Quetta valley and snowfall in Zairat started during the wee hours of Saturday.

Quetta received 8mm of rain and more rainfall is expected in Balochistan in the next 24 hours, according to the Met Office.

Qila Saifullah, Muslim Bagh, Kan Mehtarzai, Khanozai, Sanjavi, Khojak Pass, Barshor, Toba Achakzai, Toba Kakari, Qila Abdullah and Gulistan received snowfall. Pishin and Zhob also received rain and snowfall.

Heavy snowfall paralyses life in Abbottabad, Galyat

Rain, snowfall and hailstorm were also reported in Kharan, Mastung, Kalat and Nushki areas. The hill resort Harboi near Kalat received heavy snowfall after rain.

Reports from Kharan district suggested that heavy rains hit the area, flooding hill torrents. Rain was also reported in Chagai district, including Taftan and Dalbandin.

Light rain was reported in the coast town of Pasni and parts of Gwadar.

Low gas pressure and power breakdown were reported in many areas of Quetta and its outskirts.

Heavy snowfall disrupted routine life and traffic in some areas of the northern Balochistan.

There were reports of flood in some areas, while in Quetta and its surroundings rainwater flooded several localities.

Traffic was suspended for several hours on the Quetta-Qila Saifullah Highway. However, the local administration and communications department staff rushed to the site along with heavy machinery and restored traffic after removing snow.

Traffic between Duki and Sanjavi areas was also affected.
