Peace in Afghanistan will benefit region: Suri
Deputy speaker says PM Imran announced to open Torkham border for 24 hours for next six months
QUETTA:
National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri has urged Afghan Consul General Waheedullah Momand to convince his government to start a dialogue for long-term peace with Pakistan, saying peace in Afghanistan will benefit the entire region.
“Pakistan has been playing a vital role in the Afghan reconciliation process because we always utilised our efforts for peace in Afghanistan,” the deputy speaker said during a meeting with the Afghan consul general in Quetta on Tuesday.
Malnutrition stunting province’s growth: Suri
Suri had called on Momand to discuss Pakistan and Afghanistan bilateral issues.
Suri said what Prime Minister Imran Khan had stated 20 years back for Afghan policy, today US was doing the same.
“There is a long border dividing both the countries, but cultural relations between the people cannot be denied,” said Suri. “Prime Minister Imran has announced to open Torkham border for 24 hours for next six months.”
Suri said both the countries had suffered a lot from terrorism which ruined “our economy” but now Pakistan and Afghanistan should start dialogue for sustainable economies.
