Teacher physically assaults minor student

In Faisalabad, police arrested 64 suspects in possession of kite flying material during the last 24 hours

LAHORE: A minor female student was allegedly beaten up by her teacher in Shadbagh.

Police said that the suspect, identified as Imtiaz Ali, runs an academy in the area. On the day of the incident, he physically assaulted one of his students after she failed to reply to a question he had asked.

Shadbagh police have arrested Ali. They added that they were waiting for the family of the victim to submit an application for further legal proceedings.

Law enforcement agencies have failed in controlling kite flying in the provincial capital. Two more motorcyclists were injured when a kite string slit their throat in Factory Area on Saturday night.

The victim, identified as Majid, was on his way home on a motorcycle when the incident occurred. Another man, named Faqeer Hussain, was also injured in the same manner. An FIR has been registered against unidentified suspects.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar took notice of the incidents and sought a report from CCPO Lahore. He expressed displeasure over the reports of kite flying and directed officials to ensure a complete ban on the activity. "Strict action will be taken against violators without any discrimination," he said. Buzdar directed officials to provide the best medical facilities to those who were injured in the incidents.

On Sunday, Dolphin Squad and the Police Response Unit (PRU) arrested 24 accused for one-wheeling, 47 for flying kites and two other accused under the Firearms Act during the past week in Lahore.

During patrolling, Dolphin and PRU also checked more than 15,000 vehicles, 173,000 motorcycles and108,000 individuals besides impounding 16 vehicles and 2,828 motorcycles in different police stations due to incomplete documents.

SP Dolphin Squad Bilal Zafar said that officials also recovered Rs300,000 in cash, one car, 68 motorcycles, nine mobile phones, 23 pistols, two rifles, four pump action guns and narcotics, including 1,200 bottles of liquor and 400 grammes of hashish from various accused during the crackdown.

To promote community policing, Dolphin and PRU helped 700 people on different roads of the city, the SP said and added that both wings also responded to 1,431 calls to the police helpline.

DIG Operations Lahore Waqas Nazir directed SP Dolphin Squad Lahore Bilal Zafar to accelerate the pace of the crackdown against criminals.

A police spokesman told APP on Sunday that a special crackdown was initiated against kite flying and during the operation, police arrested 36 youngsters from various parts of the city along with kite-flying material.

The accused included Shahid, Rashid, Shahzaib, Asif, Nazakat Ali, Akram, Usman, Ali Hamza, Bhai Khan, Abdur Rehman, Allah Yar, Zainul Abideen, Kamran, Ali, Umair, Abu Bakar, Azeem, Saeed, Rafaqat Ali, Zubair, Ali Hasan, Sunil, Saeed, Arshad, Faraz, Muzammal, Ayyaz, Ghulam Dastgir, Suleman, Adeel, Khalid, Zahid, Rehan, Abdul Waheed, Abdullah, Ahsan Ali, Ali Raza, Mazhar Hussain, Saleem, Hamza, Ghulam Mustafa, Waseem, Amir, Bilal, Faisal, Arif, Ameen, Rafiq, Shehbaz, Faiz Rasool, etc. Police also seized dozens of kites and bundles of chemically coated string from their possession.
