The drive was launched this week with an aim to encourage the public for which the representatives of the all Union Councils (UCs) were supposed to assist the corporation for sensitising the residents about the cleanliness rules, IMC official sources told the media.
Regretting the cold response of the UC representatives, the IMC passionately called for sincere efforts of chairmen and councilors of the capital which played a vital role in engaging the public in social welfare activities. The sources said there were over 70 chairmen and 350 councilors in 50 UCs of Islamabad's urban and rural areas, urging them to come forward to make this drive successful, the IMC requested that they launch a door to door campaign to sensitise citizens on the need to make the capital neat and clean.
The IMC initiated a week-long campaign from Sector G-10 in which public participation was made compulsory but the public response was minimal towards drive which may eclipse the initiative. To a query, they said the campaign began in the federal capital earlier but had to stop due to various reasons.
During this campaign, different directorates of IMC including Sanitation Directorate, Water Supply, Machinery and Pool Organisation, Environment Wing, Directorate of Municipal Administration, Sewerage Division, Directorate of Road and Markets Maintenance and other formations would carry out cleanliness, repair and maintenance of sewerage systems, parks and roads in Sector G-10.
The IMC would hold the campaign in Sector G-11 next week and take the drive to every sector of Islamabad on the same pattern. Over 50 to 60 tons of waste material may be collected from this sector during this week, they added.
