Man sets himself on fire over marriage dispute

Kashif was depressed after one of his relatives refused to give their daughter’s hand in marriage

A man allegedly set himself on fire over a marriage dispute in Dera Ghazi Khan.

An official from City police station told The Express Tribune that Kashif Abbas, a resident of Naurangabad, was depressed after one of his relatives refused to give their daughter’s hand in marriage.

He added that in sheer frustration, the man doused his body in petrol and set himself ablaze. After the incident, police and rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the victim to the Teaching Hospital trauma centre, the official maintained.

Meanwhile, doctors at the hospital said that 60% body of the victim’s body had been burnt. They said that the injured had been provided first aid but he had been referred to Nishtar Hospital Multan as the health facility in Dera Ghazi Khan lacks a burn unit. The victim was shifted to Nishtar Hospital for treatment.

Police officials have initiated legal proceedings while further probe is under way.
Earlier, a woman suffered critical burn injuries when her husband and in-laws set her ablaze in Jhang Bazaar police precincts in Faisalabad.

According to details, Kiran had married Shamim Akram about six years ago and the couple had three children.

On the day of the incident, the victim called her father, asking him to save her from her husband and in-laws as they wanted to kill her.

Later, Kiran’s family members rushed to her house but when they reached there people from the neighbourhood told them that the accused had allegedly set the woman on fire and shifted her to Allied Hospital.
