QUETTA:
Amid tight security and moving scenes, the martyrs of the Loralai gun and suicide attacks were buried in their native towns on Wednesday.

Provincial Home Minister Mir Zia Langove, Inspector General (IG) Police Mohsin Hassan Butt, Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) DIG Aitzaz Goraya, police officials from Zhob Division and a large number of residents attended the funeral. Meanwhile, two bodies were sent to Qilla Saifullah and Kohat for burial.

Emotional scenes were seen in the graveyard during the funeral ceremony, with family and friends overwhelmed by grief.

At least nine people, including eight policemen, were martyred after three gunmen stormed the DIG Office Loralai on Tuesday morning while 800 candidates were present for recruitment test.

“Balochistan Police is on the frontline in the war against terrorism and Loralai’s martyrs saved hundreds of lives. Their sacrifices will be remembered for years,” said Balochistan police chief Mohsin Butt.

He assured those present that the forces will avenge the attack by crushing the menace of terrorism. He added that despite various attacks on Balochistan police, its officers never shied away from action against terrorist groups and are always prepared to make the ultimate sacrifice for the people of Balochistan.

At least 21 others, including 12 policemen, were also injured in the brazen attack that saw three suicide bombers storm the office of the senior police officer.

Five of the critically injured have been shifted to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Quetta via helicopter due to the danger to their lives.

“On Wednesday morning, we shifted five injured to Quetta for better medical care while 10 others have been discharged from Loralai Hospital after initial medical treatment,” Dr. Faheem, the medical superintendent in Loralai, said.

Meanwhile, business and traffic remained minimal in the provincial capital with traders observing a strike over the incident.
