CDA chief promises to revive one-window system
ICCI president calls for greater cooperation between civic authority, businessmen
ISLAMABAD:
The head of the city’s district administration, and now its top civic body, has promised to revive the defunct one-window system to facilitate members of the business community.
This was stated by Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Chief Commissioner and the Capital Development Authority Chairman Amir Ali Ahmed in a meeting with a delegation of the city’s traders led by the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) President Ahmed Hassan Mughal.
During the meeting, Ahmed said the federal capital’s business community was playing a vital role in the development of the domestic economy and added that the government will provide a business-friendly environment for them.
Ahmed, who only recently took over as the CDA chairman, said that the civic body was facing numerous issues itself, however, their first priority was to solve the issues of business community and the public.
He went on to concede that while the CDA had set up a one-window centre so that people will not have to go to different departments to have their issues resolved, the system failed to deliver the expected results.
“When an applicant has to go to every department even after submitting an application [at the one-window centre] then what is the benefit of such a one-window operation,” he asked.
However, Ahmed pledged to revive the one-window operation soon. To ensure that it works and offers greater transparency to applicants, he said that they were working on introducing a file tracking system which will allow applicants to trace at what stage was their complaint and in which department.
Moreover, he hoped that such a system would bring about an improvement in the CDA’s performance.
ICCI President Mughal complained that most of the issues they face are related to the CDA, but the civic authority has given scant attention to the issues they faced.
He added that the difficulties for industrialists and traders in the city had increased since last month.
CDA told to return $29m to overseas Pakistanis
To resolve these issues, Mughal suggested fostering close cooperation between the CDA and the business community.
The ICCI president noted that Ahmed has previously served in the CDA hot seat and was fully aware of the issues in the authority and of the business community. Mughal hoped that Ahmed would use this knowledge to solve all pressing issues swiftly.
He further assured the CDA chairman of cooperation from the ICCI in creating a business-friendly environment.
The ICCI delegation comprised of Senior Vice President Rafat Fareed, Vice President Iftikhar Anwar Sethi, Tariq Sadiq, Muzammil Sabri, Chaudhry Waheeduddin, Shaban Khalid, Tahir Abbasi, Khalid Chaudhry and Raja Majeed.
