Govt to develop Gwadar as smart port city
Bakhtiar directs authorities to make area greener, cleaner
ISLAMABAD:
The federal government has decided to develop Gwadar as a modern smart port city, keeping in view the high standards being followed across the globe in a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Reform Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtiyar to review progress on Gwadar City Master Plan project on Monday.
The meeting was also attended by Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Syed Ali Haider Zaidi, Commander Southern Command, Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa, Balochistan Provincial Minister for Information Zahoor Ahmed Buledi, Secretary Planning Zafar Hasan and other officials, said a statement issued by Ministry for Planning, Development and Reform.
Director General Gwadar Development Authority, Dr Sajjad Hussain and Project Director China Pakistan Economic Corridor Hasaan Duad briefed the participants regarding the master plan.
Gwadar master plan delay upsets Chinese
The federal planning minister instructed departments concerned to initiate process of preparing investor-friendly regulations and models in order to attract maximum investment in the port city.
Bakhtiar also directed to position heavy industries and oil city away from the main city as it was also decided for Gwadar to be made a green, clean and environment-friendly city.
“A professional approach and due financial diligence would be adopted while developing Gwadar city as a state of the art town,” said the federal minister adding all steps to be made for acquiring land and other necessities in line with requirements of the city development.
On this occasion, Gwadar port expansion plan was also discussed and it was decided that port plan will be incorporated in the overall city master plan.
