Chitral anti-polio campaign halted after heavy snowfall

Owing to heavy snowfall threats of avalanche in different areas, say authorities

SWAT: An anti-polio campaign which was set to kick off this month in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (KP) Chitral district has been halted after heavy snowfall in the area.

A notification issued by Chitral Deputy Commissioner Khursheed Alam Masood’s office reads that the delay has occurred owing to inclement weather.

The notification further states that "after intense snowfall, there have are threats of an avalanche at different areas of the district.Hence, the scheduled anti-polio drive for January has been delayed."

On the directives of the DPO Chitral, Muhammad Furqan Bilal, all the SHOs of the police stations have been put on high alert.

According to officials, this step has been taken to ensure immediate relief in case any untoward incident takes place.

Most of the link roads in Chitral are closed due to intense snowfall.

However, there are a few roads where traffic is flowing and police constables are helping cars on self-help basis to restore traffic.

Apart from this, an additional infantry of Chitral police line has been put on high alert along with their equipment till improvement in weather so that immediate action can be taken in case of any mishap.
