Work on 25,000 housing units ‘soon’
PM told special cell set up at BOI to facilitate foreign investors
ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Imran Khan was informed on Friday that work will commence soon on the federal level for the construction of 25,000 housing units in Lahore and Islamabad. The meeting, held to review progress in the ‘Naya Pakistan Housing Project’, was also informed that a special cell has been set up for the housing project at the Board of Investment, to facilitate and assist investors from abroad.
The session was attended by provincial ministers Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed and Aleem Khan, Housing Task Force Chairman Zaigham Naqvi, Housing Secretary Dr. Imran Zaib Khan and other officers.
The prime minister was updated over the legal and administrative measures meant for the housing project.
He was informed that the process for establishment of Naya Pakistan Housing Authority (NPHA) was almost complete while the bill for Real Estate Regulatory Authority has been finalised after approval from the task force and the law ministry.

In addition, work for financial model for homes and tax reliefs has entered the final phase, after which the policy will be announced soon. The premier was also briefed over the progress on foreclosure laws. The PM instructed that the laws should be finalized with the assistance of the attorney general.
Meanwhile, Punjab Housing Minister Mehmoodur Rasheed informed the PM that housing projects in Chistian, Renala Khurd and Lodhran will begin soon. The prime minister instructed those in attendance to keep the people updated about the housing project.
