ECP reinstates 31 lawmakers

Membership of Suri, Chaudhry, Afridi, Kiani, Gandapur remains suspended

ISLAMABAD:
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday restored membership of another 31 parliamentarians and allowed them to function as members of Senate, National Assembly and provincial assemblies on submission of their statements of assets and liabilities to the commission.

According to an official of ECP, these parliamentarians who had ceased to function for not submitting their assets details, now have filed their statements of assets and liabilities and fulfilled the legal requirement.

The official said that parliamentarians who have been allowed to function include two members of Senate, 12 members of National Assembly, 11 members of Punjab Assembly and six members of Sindh Assembly.

Fawad, Afridi, Iqbal among 332 parliamentarians suspended by ECP


Membership of Federal Minister for Housing Tariq Bashir Cheema, Senator Mirza Ahmed Afridi, members of National Assembly Dr. Aamir Liaquat, Mohsin Dawar, Ghulam Bibi Bharwana and Maira Hameed are reinstated.

From Punjab Assembly membership of Ammar Yasir, Saleem Sarwar Joda and Ansar Majeed Niazi whereas from Sindh Assembly membership of Sharjeel Inam Memon and Liaquat Ali Askani has been restored.

Out of total 1,174 members in the Senate, National Assembly and four provincial assemblies, 879 members have submitted the details of their assets while the remaining 292 are yet to proceed.

Membership of National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Suri, Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, Minister for State on Interior Shehryar Afridi, Health Minister Aamer Mehmood Kiani, Minister for Kashmir Affairs Ali Amin Gandapur and Minister for National Food Security Mehboob Sultan remain suspended for not submitting the details of their assets.
