LAHORE:

Special gold and silver coins, commemorating the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Deviji, have been prepared by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), Express News reported.

There are four types of coins; the gold coins weigh five and ten grammes while the silver ones weigh 25 and 50 grammes. The coins have been prepared by local jewellers using pure gold and silver.

Speaking to Express News over the phone from the Golden Temple in Amritsar, SGPC Representative Sardar Rajender Singh says that these coins will be distributed to Sikhs worldwide. “The price of the coins will be equal to the price of gold and silver during the time of purchase. However, the buyer will have to pay an additional production cost,” he explained.

These coins can also be sold in markets for the price of gold and silver, he added. Earlier, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony announced the release of a special coin for the 550th birthday of Guru Nanak Devji. However, the process to prepare these coins has not yet been initiated.

On the demand of the Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (PSGPC), Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Noorul Haq Qadri announced a special coin. Preparations for this have not begun because of the absence of a chairman for the Evacuee Trust Property Board (EPTB), said an official from PSGPC.

The committee has demanded that the government appoint a permanent chairman so that the process can be initiated.
