KARACHI: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh chapter general secretary and the party's parliamentary leader in the Sindh Assembly Haleem Adil Sheikh, has written a letter to the Sindh Home Department, seeking foolproof security over fears he may be targeted for "raising a voice for citizens' rights".

In his letter, Sheikh has said that his position as the PTI's parliamentary leader and general secretary for Sindh warrants public outreach, wherein he is required to assist people in resolving their issues. He added that he is committed to raise his voice for the people of Sindh and more often than not, it does not play well for the ruling party of the province, the Pakistan Peoples Party.

"Through my position, I have exposed the PPP's corrupt policies, its flawed leaders at all forums, be it the Assembly, media or masses, as part of my responsibility being in the opposition."

He added that he had concerns over how his actions of criticising the government would play out for him. "There are past examples of PPP leaders causing physical harm to their political opponents, and these practices are no secret to the public at large," he wrote.

The PTI further said that his constituency, which comprises areas of Sohrab Goth and SITE Superhighway, has a precarious security situation.

"I want to share the negative vibes I have gotten as I came back from my recent interior Sindh visit that exposed PPP's malpractices.

I would like to also to make it clear that I have not received any direct life threat, but I do have a sense of fear and some indirect threats, mainly from the opponent party.

Based on all of this I believe my life is at risk; so, I need foolproof security to mitigate the risk of these existing threats," he said.
