The deputy inspector general of police said no threat alert had been issued for the day but the police would keep an eye on information regarding terrorist activities.

On the murder of former DIG Muhammad Naeem Kakar, he said investigations were under way and police would be in a position to identify the killers after receiving the lab reports.

“Initial investigation suggested that a group attacking police officials might be involved in the killing of the former DIG,” Cheema revealed, adding that the security forces were trying to reach the root cause of the target killings in Quetta. He added that documentation for the Quetta Safe City Project had been finalised.

He also said that despite limited capacity the traffic police were making efforts to manage the traffic flow in the city. The DIG also said that the business community had expressed concerns over police actions “but eradicating encroachment and building a new parking plaza have become imperative in addressing the traffic problem”.
