Controversy erupts over 'washroom delivery' at JPMC

Hospital spox denies negligence claims, says normal delivery took place in labour room

A controversy has surfaced at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) after a video circulating on social media alleged that a baby was delivered in a washroom of the hospital due to doctors' negligence.

The family of the patient claimed that doctors failed to provide timely attention, forcing the delivery to take place in a washroom.

However, the hospital administration has strongly denied the allegations, terming them "baseless and contrary to facts." In an official statement, a JPMC spokesperson claimed the patient was brought to the Gynecology Emergency Ward, where her attendants misbehaved with doctors and continued recording videos during the situation.

The spokesperson further stated that the attendants insisted on a surgical operation despite medical advice to the contrary. The patient had initially been referred to the hospital for surgery, but after examination, doctors decided to proceed with a normal delivery.

"The patient safely delivered a baby boy in the labour room at 2.50am, and both mother and child are in stable condition," the spokesperson said.

Rejecting claims of a washroom delivery, the JPMC spokesperson clarified that no such incident occurred. It added that the patient was kept under observation following the delivery due to medical complications.

According to the spokesperson, the attendants again created a disturbance and later took the patient away from the hospital.
