Rising lawlessness: Islamabad police lists measures to control crimes

Sources say IGP Zulfiqar took notice of news published in The Express Tribune

ISLAMABAD: Police chief of the federal capital, taking strong exception to media reports of spike in crime rate, summoned a meeting of senior police officials to deliberate on the security situation.

Sources said that IGP Aamir Zulfiqar took notice of the news published in The Express Tribune, which pointed out that according to official figures, incidence of street crime in suburban areas have increased by 98 per cent during July to December as compared with similar period of last year.

IGP Zulfiqar presided over a high level crime review meeting at Islamabad Central Police Office, which was attended by DIG (Operations) Faisal Ali Raja, SSP (Operations) Waqar Ud Din Syed, AIG (Operations) Sardar Ghias Gul, SP (I-Area Zone) Sumaira Azam, all SDPOs and SHOs of Industrial Area zone.

During the course of the meeting, crime statistics for the Year 2018 were deliberated upon.

It includes heinous crime, like murder, attempted murder, dacoity, robbery and kidnapping. Simultaneously, the Islamabad police chief emphasised upon the officers to continue crackdown against land grabbing mafia and drug peddlers.

He said that those who perform will be rewarded, and those found inefficient would face departmental action.

In addition to that the IGP Islamabad ordered to immediately start the raids to arrest absconding culprits and also ordered to work out the untraced cases on priority basis.

Besides that the IGP ordered to arrest proclaimed offenders that court has declared as wanted, court absconders who had jumped bail and military deserters as well.

The IGP Islamabad also asked the homicide unit to improve their performance and arrest the absconding criminals in heinous crime and fatal traffic accidents.

He made it clear that during 2019, a newly formed team will crack untraced cases for the year 2018 and would strive hard to make Islamabad a crime free city.
