KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said that since 2008-9, the provincial government has been giving subsidies on different items such as tractors, electricity, wheat and sugarcane to encourage production and consumption.

He said this on Tuesday, while talking to the media at Mazar-e-Quaid, which he was visiting to pay tribute to the father of the nation on the occasion of his birth anniversary.

In response to a question, the CM said that the joint investigation team's (JIT) report has been submitted in the Supreme Court of Pakistan and will be defended in the court of law.

Defending hefty subsidies of the Sindh government, he said that the government had given subsidies to power plants to reduce load-shedding durations. It gave subsidies on tractors to strengthen small farmers, he added. He said that the Sindh government has also been giving subsidies to sugar mills and on wheat since long. "All this was approved within the ambit of the law," he said.
