Naseeruddin Shah 'advises' Imran Khan to 'take care of his own country'

'We know how to look after ourselves,' said Shah

In a rather awkward turn of events, Bollywood veteran Naseeruddin Shah has shared some advice for PM Imran Khan.

Addressing an event held to highlight the 100-day achievements of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Punjab government on Saturday, Khan vowed to treat minorities better than the neighboring India.

“We have to help our minorities and protect them as Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah laid emphasis on granting equal rights to minorities,” said Khan. “If justice is not given to the weak, this only leads to an uprising. The people of East Pakistan were not given their rights and this was the main reason behind the creation of Bangladesh,” he added.

Without naming names, Khan might have been directing his remarks towards Shah's recent comments about fearing for his children in 'today's India.'

According to The Indian Express, Shah responded, “I think Mr Khan should be walking the talk in his own country instead of commenting on issues that don’t concern him. We have been a democracy for 70 years and we know how to look after ourselves.”

In a video interview with Karwan-e-Mohabbat India, the veteran actor said the death of a cow was being given importance over the killing of a policeman in India.

He said the "poison has already spread" and it will be now difficult to contain it.

"It will be very difficult to capture this djinn back into the bottle again. There is complete impunity for those who take law into their own hands...I feel anxious for my children because tomorrow if a mob surrounds them and asks, 'Are you a Hindu or a Muslim?' they will have no answer. It worries me that I don't see the situation improving anytime soon," Shah had added.
