HYDERABAD: Sindh Chamber of Agriculture, a representative body of farmers, has demanded immediate action on the irrigation officials implicated in a federal flood commission report for negligence to crops, failure to reinforce dykes and lack of accountability for funds. A meeting of the growers’ body on Friday said irrigation officers whose negligence inflicted billions of rupees in crop losses and displacement of their families should be punished according to the law.  Furthermore, the farmers claimed that agriculturists of Sindh had to face the maximum brunt of destruction due to last year’s flood losses to the economy, which have been estimated at over Rs855 billion.
