Bahria University's aspiring students urged to pursue career in film-making

Renowned directors, producers, cinematographers shared their expertise, experiences at the 'filminar'

KARACHI: In an attempt to assist the aspiring filmmakers, the media studies department of Bahria University, Karachi on Wednesday organised a seminar regarding film-making.

Renowned directors, producers, cinematographers and script writers shared their expertise and experience with the students and shed light on the revival of Pakistani cinema. Critically acclaimed Pakistani movies and promotional videos were also discussed and screened on the occasion.

The seminar entitled 'filminar' was hosted by the varsity's final year student Allia Bukhari.

Addressing those in attendance, filmmaker and founder of Big Guns Productions Aniq Earnest said, “Students must have a strong passion to make films in order to succeed in this industry.

He stressed that the competition is increasing and "our attitudes greatly determine our quality of work."



Filmmaker Abdul Salam Naz highlighted the salient features of his new project, saying it will promote Pakistan's natural beauty. “Our new project will portray northern areas from an angle never seen before. There are mountains and beauty but there’s much more. We will capture the true essence and life of this glorious part of Pakistan”.

Prominent faces in the music industry were also in attendance on the occasion. Composer and co-founder of Fuzon Imran Momina said, “Music has a very important role in films. It is important that youngsters create their own music as this industry is constantly evolving. In today's time, no one seems to remember a song for long despite its great availability on the social media.”

Senior lecturer media studies department of the varsity Harkbaksh Makhijani hailed the efforts of dignitaries from the entertainment industry and thanked them for their valued participation in the seminar.

Other guests included cinematographer Faraz Alam and Assistant Director Laeequr Rehman. The seminar aimed at encouraging students to develop films and showcase their talent to the world.
