Defence lawyer completes witness cross-examination

Former IG Jamali, others are alleged to have made 881 illegal appointments

KARACHI: Defence lawyer Amir Raza Naqvi completed the cross-examination of a witness in the reference against the former Sindh inspector-general of police, Ghulam Haider Jamali, and others. The accountability court ordered lawyers for the other accused to cross-examine National Accountability Bureau’s (NAB) witness Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) Naeem Sheikh on the next hearing. Jamali, Senior Superintendent of Police Ghulam Nabi Keriyo, and other accused appeared before the court. NAB’s witness Sheikh also appeared before the court. The court adjourned further proceedings till December 7.

According to NAB, the accused made 881 illegal appointments in Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) Hyderabad and through fake appointments, the national treasury incurred a loss of Rs 504,661,664 million. The appointments were made for positions of constables, computer operators and others. A reference has been filed against the accused on charges of misuse of authority, corruption, favouritism and others.
