KARACHI: The Sindh Games are all set to start on their scheduled date of June 14 as the organisers have finally received the grant of Rs10 million by the Sindh government for hosting the event in Karachi.

“We’ve finally received the amount from the Sindh government and the Games will now be held according to the announced schedule,” Secretary Sports and Youth Affairs Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui told The Express Tribune.

He added that the additional grant of Rs five million promised by the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah would also be released a few days before the event and the preparations for the event remain on track.

Siddiqui further said that strict security arrangements would also be ensured for the competition.

“The police is preparing a plan to ensure fool-proof security during the event. Hopefully it would be held in a befitting manner,” he said, adding that athletes from all over the province would arrive in Karachi by June 13 for the three-day event.

A record 2,180 athletes are expected to take part in the Sindh Games that will be inaugurated by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad.
