Corruption reference: Hearing adjourned in KPT appointments case

KARACHI: An accountability court adjourned the hearing into a corruption case involving billions of rupees against former federal minister Babar Ghauri, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) MPA Javed Hanif and others relating to illegal appointments in Karachi Port Trust (KPT).

Hanif, Rauf Akhtar Farooqi and other suspects were presented before the court. The hearing was adjourned without any proceedings till December 3 due to the judge being on leave.

The court was scheduled to record statements of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) witnesses in the reference which involves eight suspects, including Ghauri. The suspects are alleged to be involved in over 940 illegal appointments in KPT in 2012, which resulted in losses of over Rs2.88 billion to the national exchequer.
