Improving healthcare: Health card scheme to be expanded to 30m families next year

Minister says NIRM will be turned into a centre of excellence, issues direction for upgrading OT

ISLAMABAD: Federal government is going to include 30 million families in the ambit of health card during next fiscal year, said Federal Minister for National Health Services Aamer Mehmood Kiani while inaugurating the newly installed CT scan machine at National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM) on Tuesday.

“We are making utmost efforts under direction of the PM Imran to bring improvement in the health sector,” Kiani said.

He assured of upgrading the facilities at NIRM. “We will remove all obstacles in the way of provision of quality healthcare to the masses. People will soon see visible improvement in quality of care in government hospital.”

Minister said in line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan health facilities are being improved to provide quality healthcare.

While visiting the operation theatre of the institute, the minister issued necessary directions for its revamping and upgrading.

“NIRM is providing best possible medical and diagnostic facilities to the patients free of cost,” the minister said appreciating the institute for providing expensive medical tests and diagnostic facilities like CT and MRI free of cost to patients.

He said NIRM will be turned into a centre of excellence.

The institute’s officials apprised Kiani about steps needed for upgrading physiotherapy and speech therapy departments within shortest possible time.

The minister visited the wards and various departments and appreciated the management for providing excellent healthcare facilities to the patents coming to NIRM from all around the country.

NIRM needs new medical and diagnostic equipment, he noted, and said the government will replace the obsolete machines.

He also visited the orthotic and prosthetic workshop of the institute and admired the activities and work being carried out there for the welfare of disabled handicapped patients. After that, Kiani had a round of physiotherapy indoor gym and praised the environment and facilities available for the rehabilitation of disabled.

The Executive Director, NIRM Dr Fazle Maula thanked the honorable minister for his kind visit of the institute and support and cooperation by the government for making the institute as a centre of excellence for providing best possible health care facilities to the poor and disabled patients. DNA
