QUETTA: Vice Chancellor of the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) Ahmed Farooq Bazai has stressed the need for a world where peace, tolerance and happiness are promoted through technology.

“We also need to work for the future of humanity,” he said while speaking at the inaugural session of the 2nd International Conference on Computing, Electronic and Electrical Engineering (ICE Cube) organised by BUITEMS in Quetta on Monday.

Speaking about the two-day event, the VC said the ICE Cube is a flagship event of the university meant for initiating intellectual discourse throughout the province. He expressed the hope that the moot would prove to be an important breakthrough towards achieving sustainable growth.

Disrupt 021 and an evolving tech landscape

Bazai said that the BUITEMS would also work as a hub in achieving United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal eight.

Addressing the conference, National University of Science and Technology (NUST) Prof Dr Shoaib Khan said the government’s announcement for automation of services is a ‘good omen’.

“Pakistan needs to work hard for achieving a significant place amongst technologically-advanced countries in the world,” he said. “For this, the country needs to introduce outcome-based learning in the fields of artificial intelligence, machine language, cyber security, big data, cloud computing, robotics, and automation.”

Pakistan could learn from the experiences of the United Arab Emirates as well, he added.

Briefing about the conference, Dean Faculty of Information and Communication Technology Dr Faisal Kakar said ICE Cube is a biennial conference series initiated by the BUITEMS in technical collaboration with the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), USA.
