Accused allegedly beat the deceased and set him ablaze after dousing him with petrol

KHANEWAL: An alleged rapist was set ablaze by his friend in Noorpur Village on Monday.

The police said that Taimoor, a resident of Makhdoom Pur, was allegedly sexually assaulted by his friend Tasawwar Shah some time back. In a bid to take revenge, Taimoor and his friends abducted Shah and took him to Noorpur Village.

The accused allegedly beat the victim and set him ablaze after dousing him with petrol. However, when Tasawwar Shah screamed for help, locals rushed to the spot and shifted him to the tehsil hospital for treatment. Later, doctors at the health facility referred him to Nishtar Hospital as he had suffered critical burn injuries.

The Bara Mail police have registered a case against the culprits and started investigations. A police official said that raids were being conducted to nab the accused.

Back on June 19, a woman succumbed to burn wounds after her husband allegedly set her ablaze following a quarrel over Eid shopping in Multan.

Mujahid Iqbal, the culprit, doused the victim, Jamila, with petrol and then set her on fire. The victim was hospitalised at the Nishtar burns unit in critical condition. The couple got into an argument over buying Eid apparel for their children on June 14.

In a fit of rage, Mujahid set his wife ablaze, causing severe burn wounds to 80% of her body. After remaining admitted at the burns unit for five days, the victim succumbed to her wounds.
