SIALKOT:

Open manholes have become death traps in Sialkot’s Daska City. Residents have expressed concern over the open manholes and requested the government to address the problem in the city and its adjoining areas. They believe it poses a threat to their lives, particularly at night when visibility is low.

A survey by Express News revealed that the city’s roads and footpaths are lined with uncovered manholes, proving hazardous for locals, especially children. Many open manholes have been spotted on GT Road, Sambrial Road, Defence Road, Iqbal Town and other areas.

The open manholes pose a threat to the lives of motorists and pedestrians, but the district administration has not taken measures to cover them up. Despite repeated complaints by the citizens, the matter is yet to be resolved.

Open manholes have led to fatal accidents and are a hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic.

Citizens told Express News that in the past, several people have fallen into the manholes and suffered critical injuries as they remain uncovered due to the negligence of the authorities.

Daska resident Mian Sabir Hussain, said, “Such incidents are a result of human errors. It is the responsibility of the district administration to cover them up.”

He added that open manholes could result in a fatal incident and the issue should be resolved at the earliest.

Another resident, Imran Anees said that in the past, many people have fallen into open pits at night when visibility is low. “The officials concerned should take immediate measures to cover these death traps,” he maintained.

Citizens have demanded of the government to fix the problem so that lives could be saved.
