LAHORE:
A senior police official was gunned down, along with his driver and guard, in Muridke on Monday after an attack by unidentified assailants.

The station house officer (SHO) of Rang Mehal, Zahid Mehmood, was on his way to work from Muridke when his vehicle came under attack.

All three occupants received fatal wounds in the attack.

Initial investigations suggest that Mehmood was killed over an old enmity. The assailants were waiting for him in a car, and resorted to indiscriminate firing as he came out of his house.

Further investigations regarding the incident are currently underway.

Punjab Police’s Dolphin Force on Saturday shot dead a mentally challenged youth in Lahore’s Sabzazar area.


Reports had come in that a teenager was going around threatening citizens with a knife.

Upon hearing this, the force reached the scene and tried to disarm the youth by aerial firing, but to no avail.

The knife-wielding Lahore resident then attacked one of the police officers, causing injuries to him. The personnel fired at the assailant, who received a bullet to the chest and died on the spot.

The attacker’s body was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where it was revealed that he suffered from mental illness.
